Abstract
II est de plus en plus difficile d’imaginer l’exercice de la démocratie dans les sociétés occidentales sans la production, surtout dans ces temps forts que sont les périodes électorales, de sondages politiques. Mais, pour que ces derniers jouent le rôle de clarification des enjeux, de dévoilement de l’état des forces politiques qu’on leur attribue souvent, encore faut-il que leurs résultats soient accompagnés des informations méthodologiques permettant d’en apprécier la validité. Dans ce texte, nous tentons précisément de voir dans quelle mesure, lors de la campagne électorale fédérale de 1988, les médias écrits ont transmis le « mode d’emploi » des sondages dont ils rapportaient les résultats.
