Abstract
Lionel Groulx (1878-1967) est un contemporain, d’où les possibilités d’accéder, pour la connaissance de son enfance religieuse, à des sources visuelles, orales, manuscrites et imprimées. L’inventaire de ces mêmes sources situées et lues dans le contexte de l’époque (1879-1900) renvoie à une enfance nourrie de deuils et de rites religieux traditionnels : forte influence maternelle à la maison, attachement général à la paroisse et à ses prêtres, culte des âmes, importance de l’imagerie dévote et de la prière rituelle. Nous y apprenons que l’enfance religieuse, à la fin du XIXe siècle, baigne dans une atmosphère de dévotions prescrites avec le goût du visuel et de l’oral. Religion patriarcale à l’église, matriarcale à la maison.
