Abstract
La comparaison des pratiques financières de trois générations de couples suisses de classe moyenne permet de souligner le rôle central de l’indépendance économique dans la construction du lien conjugal contemporain. L’autonomie financière, de plus en plus privilégiée par les couples de la jeune génération, ne contribue pas seulement à favoriser la liberté de chacun, elle rend également possible une nouvelle forme de solidarité conjugale, moins statutaire et plus émotionnelle qu’autrefois. Historiquement, le processus d’individualisation des finances traduit surtout le processus d’émancipation économique des femmes. En ce sens, ce nouveau lien conjugal dépend en partie de la capacité des femmes à accéder à une ressource traditionnellement masculine, l’argent.
