Abstract
Les glaces flottantes exercent une double action au droit des schorres de la baie de James (51°09' - 54°37' lat. N.). D'une part, elles fauchent une grande partie des tiges, affouillent la surface herbacée et le substrat meuble creusant de longues rainures et des dépressions superficielles, et arrachent des lambeaux de la couverture donnant ainsi naissance à des marelles de 1 5 à 30 cm de profondeur, aux formes et aux dimensions variées. D'autre part, lors de la fonte, elles abandonnent dans les schorres une quantité considérable de matériel minéral, soit des cailloux dont la dimension excède parfois 200 cm de diamètre, soit des îlots ou amas de débris fins, soit des morceaux d'herbier (argile, vase, sable et gravier). En somme, la physionomie des schorres, profondément modifiée par l'action des glaces, affecte leur écologie et permet de les ranger dans la catégorie des schorres des régions froides.
