Abstract
L'auteur décrit les principales caractéristiques du système de santé québécois et montre comment elles s'enracinent dans une histoire qui pour certaines remontent aussi loin qu'au tout début du siècle. Il présente les différents facteurs d'ordre technique, économique, politique et social qui peuvent les expliquer. Il montre, en particulier, l'influence déterminante du gouvernement fédéral tout au long du siècle. Enfin, il laisse entrevoir l'orientation que le système de santé québécois pourrait prendre à l'aube du XXIe siècle.
