Abstract Borane der allgemeinen Struktur HBR 2 reagieren leicht mit Pyrido[1,2‐a]isoindol ( A ) in Form einer 1,1‐Hydroborierung. Hierbei kommt es durch die Insertion einer BR 2 ‐Einheit in eine C‐N‐Bindung zur Ausbildung eines BN‐Heterocyclus. Die Untersuchung der Thermoreaktivität des BN‐Heterocyclus zeigte, dass die thermische Eliminierung über zwei getrennte, miteinander konkurrierende Routen verläuft: HBR 2 ‐Eliminierung (auch Retrohydroborierung) oder R‐H‐Eliminierung, abhängig vom jeweiligen Rest R am Boratom und vom Chelatgerüst. Der Mechanismus dieser höchst außergewöhnlichen Reaktionen wurde experimentell und durch quantenmechanische Rechnungen untersucht. Die Adduktbildung zwischen HBR 2 und A ist hierbei das entscheidende Zwischenprodukt in der 1,1‐Hydroborierung von A .
