L’évaluation à l’école maternelle a différentes fonctions, dont une fonction de régulation des apprentissages. Si l’on conçoit l’enseignement comme l’action de promouvoir l’apprentissage par des interventions directes et indirectes, l’étude des mécanismes de régulation est essentielle pour comprendre les relations entre l’enseignement et l’apprentissage. Ce travail de recherche y participe à travers l’observation et l’analyse des différentes formes de réactions (feedback) d’enseignants de la maternelle face aux démarches et performances des élèves et leurs effets sur les conduites des élèves. Il en ressort, notamment, que les feedback observés prennent le plus souvent la forme d’un contrôle de la part de l’enseignant, cherchant à vérifier la conformité entre la réponse de l’élève et le produit fini attendu. On constate, cependant, des variations intéressantes entre enseignants.
