L’accidentologie des sports de montagne est par certains aspects lacunaire en France. Cet article vise à cerner les freins de divers ordres à la production d’informations raisonnablement complètes, statistiquement fiables et/ou suffisamment détaillées. Au terme d’une enquête qualitative, il apparaît que des enjeux pluriels (institutionnels, économiques, corporatistes, méthodologiques, etc.) façonnent à la fois la production de connaissances sur les accidents, et, par ricochet, les messages préventifs, dont la dimension référentielle et conative se trouve par conséquent contrariée.
