Abstract
L'évolution des conceptions prénuptiales à Trois-Rivières est ici abordée comme indice de fidélité aux enseignements catholiques. Cette recherche a permis de constater que les Trifluviens en général manifestent un grand respect des prescriptions religieuses; qu'ils ont cependant un taux de cpn supérieur à celui des autres populations québécoises étudiées; que cet indice croît lentement au cours des années 1850-1900 et fait un bond au xxe siècle avec l'accélération de l'urbanisation; que la diminution de l'indice cpn en fin de période n'est pas due à une transformation des mœurs mais à la hausse des naissances illégitimes; que ce sont les populations ouvrières les plus pauvres et les moins bien intégrées à la structure paroissiale qui présentent un taux supérieur de cpn et conséquemment manifestent le moins de sensibilité aux enseignements catholiques.
