Résumé Cet article présente les principales leçons tirées de l’expérimentation de la carte à puce dans le domaine médical au Québec. Ces cartes permettent aux professionnels de partager de l’information clinique et peuvent également servir à des fins administratives. L’expérimentation à grande échelle faite à Rimouski a permis de vérifier l’impact de cette technologie de même que son potentiel d’adoption. Durant cette expérience, la carte à puce était utilisée strictement à des fins cliniques. Les études faites dans le cadre de ce projet montrent que l’adoption de la technologie dépend fortement des avantages que les professionnels en tirent et du caractère systématique de l’utilisation de la carte par les clients du système de santé. Par ailleurs, les différences entre le projet actuellement mis en avant par la Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec et le projet-pilote fait à Rimouski sont soulignées. Le projet actuel ajoute notamment une finalité administrative à la carte et propose l’utilisation de bases de données pour stocker l’information. Durant le projet de Rimouski, l’information était stockée sur la carte. Ces différences sont prises en considération dans l’analyse des défis auxquels fait face le projet actuel.
