À la faveur de quelle différence, en vertu de quelle altérité, la religion positive peut-elle, sans en trahir la nudité et sans se dissiper en apparence, rebondir jusque dans la raison mise en liberté ? Que l’on prenne au sérieux cette question : la religion positive apparaîtra peut-être moins comme une figure illusoire, presque maléfique, de la religion vraie, moins comme ce simulacre de la raison que le jeune Hegel ordonnait parfois d'« évincer » [verdrängen, que comme un quelque chose d'autre qui est autant le secours que l'hostilité que rencontre la religion lorsqu’elle « extériorise [...] son existence » [aüssert [...] ihr Dasein].
