Abstract
Dans La condition foetale , Luc Boltanski construit un modèle d’engendrement pour étudier les justifications autour de la pratique de l’avortement. Le recours à l’anthropologie vise à donner un fondement universel à sa théorie de l’engendrement en Occident. De son côté, Pierre Legendre place l’institution généalogique, qu’il définit comme un espace mythique propre à toutes les sociétés, mais ancré en Occident dans l’héritage romano-canonique, au coeur de son anthropologie dogmatique. Dans cet article est examinée la manière dont ces deux auteurs, pour construire une théorie de l’engendrement, articulent l’universel avec les modalités propres à l’Occident et comment ils manient la relation à la religion chrétienne.
