Abstract
The East Greenland–Irminger Current (EGIC), which flows southwestward along the eastern coast of Greenland, is important because its variability likely influences convection in the Labrador and Irminger seas and could affect the global meridional overturning circulation. Daniault et al. present new measurements of the EGIC transport variability from 1992 to 2009 based on satellite altimetry data and 2 years of data from a moored array. They found that the EGIC transport was close to average from 1992 to 1996, decreased between 1997 and 2005, and has increased since 2006. Beyond this decadal variability the researchers found no significant trend in the 1992–2009 EGIC transport time series, confirming that EGIC transport variability has not changed significantly over the past 2 decades.
