Abstract
Avec Passé parfait (1991), le premier roman d’une série de six romans mettant en vedette Mario Conde, l’écrivain cubain Leonardo Padura Fuentes présente les dessous d’une société cubaine en pleine évolution. Toutefois, l’écrivain affirme ne pas vouloir s’aventurer vers le commentaire politique, domaine qui peut parfois se révéler périlleux pour l’intellectuel cubain. De par sa nature, le protagoniste lui-même, ainsi que la trame et la forme du roman insinuent un état cubain qui n’est pas nécessairement parfait – alcoolisme, désenchantement, flash-back romantiques, entre autres exemples. Le malfaiteur du roman s’avère être un bureaucrate soi-disant irréprochable d’un ministère. Sans faire de morale, Padura Fuentes ébauche, à travers son roman, une fresque de sa patrie qui se métamorphose avec l’effondrement du Bloc de l’Est.
