*To simplify our Hybrid rockets and reduce their size Lockheed Martin is exploring alternative gas generator concepts. Most current liquid turbopump rocket engines use fuel rich gas generators to power the turbine. A hybrid rocket has only liquid oxidizer(s) on board that can be sent to a gas generator. Lockheed Martin tested a gas generator using Hybrid rocket technology. Exhaust from a small fuel grain that burns oxygen rich is encased and piped to act as a gas generator. Material compatibility with high temperature oxygen was accomplished by lowering the gas temperature produced by the gas generator through the use of post-combustion injection of additional oxidizer. Several tests were conducted at the Stennis Space Center, and were used as the test bed and validation for our models. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how effective this technique is for producing gases necessary to power hybrid rocket turbopumps and other systems.
