Abstract
Récemment, la question de la double inscription institutionnelle de la théologie, à la fois dans l’espace universitaire et dans l’espace ecclésial, a été soulevée dans divers milieux. Au Québec, en même temps que se faisait le débat sur l’enseignement de la religion à l’école et que prenait place la réforme visant à déconfessionnaliser le système public d’éducation, on a assisté à une remise en question d’une formation théologique donnée à l’université, autant de la part d’acteurs ecclésiaux que d’acteurs sociaux. Le travail théologique est évidemment possible en dehors de l’institution universitaire, mais la théologie peut trouver dans l’université l’un de ses lieux majeurs de production et d’expression, mettant en dialogue la foi et la raison. Pour cela, l’Église doit accepter de nouvelles formes d’association avec l’université. Il faut repenser le «contrat» entre l’Église, l’université et l’État.
