Abstract
Le respect de l’autonomie des personnes vieillissantes est aujourd’hui un enjeu de débats important, dans le domaine de l’action gérontologique. Mais n’existe-t-il pas un risque de normaliser l’autonomie comme devant être assumée par tout individu de sa naissance à sa mort ? Comment aborder alors les personnes, inscrites depuis toujours dans une logique hétéronome, qui soutient, à la force de liens de dépendance, le sens de leur existence ? Cet article repose sur les résultats d’une recherche de trois ans en milieu rural isolé.
