La compréhension moderne du statut de l'écrivain, visualisée au moyen d'images empruntées aux spectacles forains, au cirque et au music-hall est analysée à partir de l'oeuvre de Franz Kafka. Il apparaît que Kafka reste fidèle à ces métaphores tout au long de sa carrière et les élabore de façon cohérente. En s'appuyant sur la connaissance du fonctionnement sémiotique des spectacles de cirque en général et de l'acrobatie en particulier, telle qu'établie par Paul Bouissac, cet article montre comment Kafka exploite le potentiel du langage multimédia mais surtout visuel du cirque et du music-hall pour articuler l'indicible touchant sa sensibilité d'artiste, sa vie de célibataire et sa passion de l'écriture.
