Abstract
La guerre contre l’Espagne révolutionnaire a passionné la presse sous la Restauration. Le Constitutionnel, libéral, était hostile à la guerre et la Quotidienne, ultra, y était favorable. Tous les deux en ont débattu en citant des documents officiels, des lettres particulières, des journaux anglais et même des journaux adverses. Par ailleurs, la guerre a ravivé la mémoire de la Révolution française et de l’Empire. Cependant, celle du Constitutionnel était ambiguë. Il a dissocié la Révolution de la Terreur et a favorisé la première au détriment de Napoléon, si bien qu’il n’a pas pu encourager le bonapartisme. En plus, il a affirmé l’importance de l’oubli du passé. Pour la Quotidienne, l’époque napoléonienne était incluse dans la Révolution. Sa logique était simple, mais forte. D’ailleurs, elle a réussi à devenir un « porte-parole » des morts pour la nation et a critiqué les libéraux comme étant des anti-nationaux.
