RésuméLa ville, décor urbain par excellence, offre un terrain d’expression et l’apparition de nouvelles pratiques qui, depuis quelques décennies, séduisent les adolescents et les postadolescents. Ces pratiques se distinguent des activités sportives des générations précédentes. Pénétrant la ville et évoluant en dehors d’un cadre institutionnalisé pourtant existant, « le skater investit le lieu de vie le plus ordinaire, le trottoir et le transforme en espace ludique » (Duret et Augustini, 1993, p. 43). L’analyse des pratiques urbaines que sont le skateboard, le roller et le BMX puis, par extension, les différentes formesde gestuelles et autres déplacements dans la ville permettent de cerner la pertinence et l’aspect incontournable de l’acrobatie à travers la notion de freestyle. Et si l’acrobatie permettait de mieux cerner certaines ambivalences au fondement du skateboard et notamment sa double facette évolution sportive et autoconservation d’un héritage urbain esthétique ?
