Abstract
À l’école de la démocratie, les États africains ont la triste réputation d’être de mauvais élèves. L’édification d’une véritable démocratie est mise à mal par la persistance de considérations tribales, ethniques ou encore claniques. Il importe alors de repenser la démocratie en Afrique en commençant par s’affranchir du mythe selon lequel, en raison de leur organisation traditionnelle, les sociétés africaines seraient incompatibles avec la démocratie. La marche engagée par l’Afrique vers la démocratie par la voie institutionnelle ne sera véritablement effective qu’avec l’essor d’une véritable culture démocratique des hommes.
