Abstract
Abstract The moments of the impulse response provide a simple way of estimating the properties of electromagnetic (EM) targets (Smith and Lee, 2002a). The moments are defined for an ideal EM waveform, for example, a system where the transmitter current is switched off in an infinitesimally short period at time t = 0 and the EM receiver records the voltage induced in an ideal loop sensor. Alternatively, the ideal system could have a receiver sensor that measures the magnetic field after an infinitesimally short pulse in transmitter current at t = 0.
