Abstract
Le déterminant postposé /la/ du créole haïtien se prononce [a] en position postvocalique, par ex., [maladla] ‘le malade’, mais [papaa] ‘le papa’. Nikiema 1999 soutient qu’il ne peut s’agir d’un processus d’effacement de /l/ du fait que les langues naturelles manifestent généralement une très forte tendance à éviter les hiatus et, qu’en plus, le créole haïtien crée lui-même des glissantes de transition dans des formes telles que [laplija] (< [laplia] < [laplila]) ‘la pluie’. Bien que les langues cherchent souvent à se défaire des hiatus, il est tout aussi vrai qu’elles en produisent continuellement des nouveaux à la suite de chutes de consonnes intervocaliques de toutes sortes. Par conséquent, toute analyse de l’alternance /l/ ~ ∅ qui repose sur 1’effacement consonantique ne saurait être écartée d’office car la création d’hiatus est manifestement un phénomène usuel et naturel.
