Abstract The scale difference between chemical reactions and diffusive processes makes the numerical simulation of reactive flows a challenging task. The subscale effects of reactions are hard to capture unless the computational expenses of very fine-grid numerical simulations can be tolerated, which is not practically feasible. A solution is to develop methodologies to account for small-scale effects using coarse-grid simulations. In this article, an equivalent reaction constant for steady-state and isothermal reactive flow with a power-law kinetics is developed. The effects of Peclet number, Thiele modulus, and reaction order are investigated.
