Abstract
Si Québec fut fondé par un Saintongeais il y a 400 ans, les marins normands fréquentent la Nouvelle-France depuis cinq siècles. Avec les Bretons, ce sont les armateurs de Dieppe, Rouen et Honfleur qui ont développé la pêche au large de Terre-Neuve au XVIe siècle. Jusqu'en 1663, les ports normands dominent toujours le commerce avec la colonie canadienne et acheminent environ le quart de tous les emigrants vers le Saint-Laurent. Des Normands jouent aussi des rôles importants dans l'administration à cette époque. Après la prise en mains de la colonie par Louis XIV, la visibilité des Normands s'estompe sauf en ce qui concerne la pêche.
