Abstract

Euler deconvolution is, as Pat Millegan describes it in a 2005 TLE article, “leading the pack” amongst automated interpretation techniques. The strength of the method rests primarily on its sound theoretical framework, namely the assumption that the measured potential field is homogeneous. On the other hand, a well documented weakness is the ambiguity introduced because the structural index must be input. We feel, then, it is worthwhile investigating a related approach that also begins by assuming homogeneity, but follows with a solution strategy that computes depths by some means other than solving Euler's equations. Importantly, this solution strategy bypasses the need for a priori knowledge of source geometry (structural index).
