Abstract

The functional dependency inference problem consist in finding a cover of the set of functional dependencies that hold in a relation. The problem has applications in relational database analysis and tuning, database reengineering or query optimization. This article presents in detail the functional dependency inference problem and proposes a state of the art of the algorithms dealing with this problem. This state of the art insists more precisely on the effectiveness of the most recent algorithms.
