La création de RECLUS, Réseau d'études des changements dans les localisations et les unités spatiales, est la plus importante nouveauté institutionnelle des années 80 dans la géographie française. Elle n'est pas la seule, puisque d'autres équipes sont apparues ou se sont recomposées ; toutefois, la plupart de ces autres équipes ont des liens étroits avec RECLUS. L'expérience en question, par ce qu'elle apprend sur le statut et le mouvement de la géographie, vaut sans doute d'être analysée.
