Abstract
A candidate vaccine against malaria has been shown to almost halve the number of malaria cases in young children but only to reduce cases by a quarter in infants. The effectiveness of the vaccine was also found to decline over time, the 18 month results from a large phase III trial show. However, the vaccine’s manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline, said that it was encouraged by the results and plans to submit a regulatory application to the European Medicines Agency in 2014.
