Abstract
La Basse-Ville de Québec est un quartier traditionnel, où la parenté polarise toutes les relations sociales et où la démarcation entre les sexes est fondamentale. La communication passe par les femmes, les principaux échanges se tissent à propos des enfants, la fête et les vacances regroupent la parenté. Ce modèle de sociabilité matricentrique offre diverses variantes, où le facteur essentiel est la pauvreté en parenté. Les nombreux cas de familles monoparentales, à savoir : sans père, relèvent en majorité du même modèle, dans une situation économique plus précaire. Davantage que l'instabilité conjugale, la chute de la natalité condamne, à la prochaine génération, cette sociabilité des liens de sang. L'étude est basée sur soixante-douze entrevues auprès des parents d'enfants inscrits dans les écoles primaires.
