Abstract

We develop an optimised crossover operator designed by anundirected bipartite graph within a genetic algorithm for solvinga single machine family scheduling problem, where jobs arepartitioned into families and setup time is required between thesefamilies. The objective is to find a schedule which minimises themaximum lateness of the jobs in the presence of the sequenceindependent family setup times. The results showed that theproposed algorithm is generating better quality solutions comparedto other variants of genetic algorithms.
