Abstract
À l'occasion d'une recherche portant sur l'intégration des immigrants grecs à Montréal, l'auteur introduit la notion d'" intégration civique ", notion distincte de celle de l'intégration politique. Les implications de cette notion sont importantes autant sur le plan théorique que dans le domaine de la praxis sociale. À l'opposé d'une conception traditionnelle, le comportement d'intégration des immigrants n'est pas nécessairement linéaire ; l'intégration civique peut précéder l'accomplissement de l'intégration culturelle. Elle peut, de surcroît, provoquer le ralentissement du processus d'acculturation des immigrants à la société d'accueil en favorisant la conservation de la culture ethnique d'origine.
