Abstract
An 11-month-old male Labrador Retriever was presented having been bitten by an adder on the left hind foot whilst out on a walk. The limb had become oedematous quickly, leading to marked pitting oedema of the medial aspect of the leg. This progressed over the following 12 hours along the ventral abdomen and became bruised, with areas of petechial haemorrhage. Haematology revealed a moderate anaemia, with spherocytosis and a marked thrombocytopenia. Treatment over the following 48 hours, with fluid therapy, antibiotics, steroids, analgesia, antihistamines and viper antivenom, led to a full recovery.
