Abstract
Cet article cherche à comprendre les éléments distinctifs qui donnent aux écrits de l'Ouest canadien leur particularité, leur unicité. Une ébauche se dresse à partir de l'étude de nombreuses nouvelles et romans, faisant appel à des anthologies de la "Prairie" comme à des auteurs plus connus, tels Nancy Huston, J. R. Léveillé ou Simone Chaput. L'article explore la notion d'espace en tant qu'élément structural, le concept d'errance à mettre en parallèle avec la nature minoritaire de cette francophonie, le recours au fantastique ainsi qu'au texte concis et, enfin, la récurrence de personnages archétypiques, à savoir la "Ouesterneuse" et le Métis ou la Métisse.
