Nous analysons dans cet article L’Attente l’oubli de Maurice Blanchot, tentant de montrer comment s’y articulent les liens de la mémoire et de l’oubli. La métaphore du labyrinthe nous permettra d’illustrer le concept de musement, proposé initialement par C. S. Peirce, et nous servira à comprendre comment des souvenirs peuvent être perdus puis récupérés, si tant est qu’ils puissent l’être. Le narrateur de L’Attente l’oubli est dans une relation presque clinique avec cette femme qu’il veut aider. Or, il doit apprendre, s’il veut récupérer le fil de ses souvenirs, à ne pas écouter ce qu’elle lui dit, à ne pas s’arrêter aux mots qu’elle énonce et à leur signification, mais à écouter au-delà des mots, là où le ton devient signifiant. C’est dans la tonalité que se cache la vérité de l’être.
