Résumé Le leadership est un phénomène à la fois omniprésent, ambigu et fuyant. Le concept lui-même est flou, fourre-tout, trop à la mode. Il en est question dans le monde politique, dans le milieu des affaires, dans les activités sportives, dans la vie culturelle, bref, partout. Le leadership fait référence aux êtres humains en société, soumis à des autorités diverses. Pour en saisir l’essence, il faut s’attaquer à la compréhension de la nature humaine même, aux relations interpersonnelles, particulièrement aux rapports d’autorité, et à la vie en société. C’est un vaste champ d’étude, mais combien fascinant ! Cet article tente de décrire le lien entre la compréhension qu’on a du leadership, nos façons de raconter cette expérience et les façons personnelles qu’on a d’être leaders. Raconter le leadership peut avoir un impact important, puisque cela permet de mieux le comprendre en vue de mieux l’assumer. Raconter pour comprendre et assumer, ou assumer pour raconter et comprendre, voilà ce qu’on pourrait appeler le cercle vertueux de la subjectivité et du leadership !
