La réforme de la protection de la jeunesse au Québec en 2006 a introduit dans la loi des durées maximales de placement temporaire. L’idée centrale de la réforme est de permettre aux enfants abandonnés ou en voie de l’être, de bénéficier le plus rapidement possible d’un projet de vie permanent qui leur assurera la stabilité nécessaire. Cette nouvelle approche, largement inspirée de la théorie de l’attachement, a été très bien accueillie par les intervenants. Elle représente cependant un défi, tant pour eux que pour les familles car les délais imposent à l’intervention une dimension d’urgence qu’il n’est pas toujours facile de concilier avec les autres principes de la loi.
