Abstract
Trois dimensions (symbolique, historique et concrète) traversent la matérialité sociale, conçue comme processus. La pratique sociologique — via ses méthodologies quantitatives et qualitatives et ses modèles théoriques — fonctionne par réduction — ou dé-dialectisation de ces dimensions : du symbolique à la signification ou l'interprétation; de l'historique à une vision du temps conçu comme espace réel ou analytique; du concret (sujet sociologique) à la structure ou aux acteurs sociaux. Ces réductions sont, cependant, nécessaires : les observations dépendent des conditions mêmes de la recherche : le travail préalable sur les formes quantitatives ou signifiantes, sous lesquelles apparaît la matérialité sociale. L'analyse dialectique ne peut être, alors, considérée que comme une étape ultérieure de la récherche; elle procédera par critique des résultats dédialectisés obtenus, et par leur transformation re-dialectisante, à l'aide des outils connus de la logique dialectique.
