Né il y a exactement cent ans, Friedrich Hayek a joué un rôle majeur dans la reconstruction d’une pensée libérale originale qui s’oppose, en particulier, à l’interventionnisme keynésien. L’article retrace l’itinéraire de cet homme qui, d’abord vaincu par Keynes, a vu ses idées triompher dans les dernières années de sa vie. L’auteur se penche ensuite sur les fondements du libéralisme de Hayek, en évoquant sa conception de la connaissance et sa théorie des ordres spontanés, sur lesquels s’appuie son rejet du socialisme et de la planification. Il examine enfin sa conception de l’État et des rapports entre l’État et l’économie et montre que le libéralisme de Hayek a, dans la mouvance libérale actuelle, souvent qualifiée de néolibérale, des caractéristiques singulières qui le distinguent de plusieurs autres courants.
