Le 26 mars 2007, le Qubec a t frapp par un vritable sisme lectoral, se retrouvant avec un gouvernement minoritaire pour la premire fois depuis plus d'un sicle, depuis 1878 plus prcisment. Il s'est galement dcouvert morcel en trois segments bien distincts, reprsent chacun l'Assemble nationale par une formation politique diffrente, ce qui a soulev des inquitudes chez bien des observateurs. La grande surprise a t la progression de l'ADQ (Action dmocratique du Qubec), une formation politique de droite considre jusque-l comme marginale et qui constitue aujourd'hui l'opposition officielle. Ce bouleversement est d en partie au dbat sur les accommodements raisonnables, qui a occup une grande place dans l'espace mdiatique et l'opinion publique au cours de la dernire anne, et la position claire de Mario Dumont sur la question.
