Abstract
Les interprétations du phénomène de migration ou de mobilité géographique des jeunes ont rarement été données par les acteurs eux-mêmes, les migrants. C’est aux tâches de repérage et d’analyse systématique des points de vue des premiers intéressés que s’est attaqué le Groupe de recherche sur la migration des jeunes au moyen d’un sondage qui a joint au-delà de 5 000 répondants. La population à l’étude correspond aux jeunes de vingt à trente-quatre ans, le groupe d’âge le plus touché par le phénomène. Les motifs invoqués, principalement la poursuite des études suivie d’assez loin par trois groupes de motifs relatifs à la recherche d’emploi, au lieu de résidence du conjoint ou à d’autres motifs personnels, correspondent aux changements sociaux de l’époque : les exigences de la société du savoir mais aussi, lorsqu’il s’agit de l’éventualité du retour, le choix d’un lieu de vie caractérisé par les valeurs de la proximité.
