The purpose of this paper is to analyze the radiation characteristics of PLC (power line communication) systems by numerical modeling. This should help in the development of a measurement methodology for these systems. Based on a review of currently operating PLC systems, technical parameters are established. A typical medium-voltage (MV) overhead three-phase power line wiring configuration was chosen to characterize real PLC wiring structures with various combinations of devices such as transformers, other conductors in the vicinity, and corner angles. An analysis of the models provides an understanding of unintentional radiation arising from real PLC systems
