Abstract
Les transferts linguistiques établis par les populations allophones ont fait au Québec l’objet d’un bon nombre d’études démographiques et sociologiques. Elles ont en outre très généralement mis en évidence la préférence manifeste des allophones pour l’anglais et tout ce que ces choix linguistiques traduisent en termes de comportement social, économique et politique. Le présent article s’inscrit dans cet ensemble d’études en tentant de dégager, à partir des statistiques du recensement de 1971 sur l’origine ethnique des conjoints des familles époux-épouse au Québec et dans le reste du Canada, les préférences ethniques qui s’y expriment et qui illustrent, dans une certaine mesure, les dynamiques respectives des relations interethniques des deux contextes socio-politiques choisis.
