Current Mapping of a Diagnostic Modeling Cell

Abstract
In this work, local current distribution was investigated by temperature mapping without disturbing the operation of a diagnostic modeling cell. A temperature mapping ramp was measured using micro-thermocouples embedded into the anode plate of the modeling cell. Then, the current distribution was calculated based on the relation between current and heat generated from the reaction, and the assumption of the adiabatic condition. The effects of different operation conditions on current distribution were also investigated. The results show that the temperature derivative tends to increase along the flow field from the inlet to close to the outlet and then decrease under various conditions. This trend is exactly opposite to that of the local voltage distribution. We conclude that local current distribution depends on not only the flow field design but also the local voltage distribution.
