Abstract
Madame le Professeur Françoise Nicolas est décédée le 1 er septembre 2014 à la suite d'une longue et douloureuse maladie.Ses amis et ses collaborateurs se sont associés à sa famille dans un émouvant hommage rendu le 9 septembre en l'église Notre-Dame de Toutes Joies à Nantes.Figure emblématique du centre hospitalo-universitaire (CHU) de Nantes, Madame Nicolas avait créé successivement un département d'anesthésie-réanimation en 1970 et un service de réanimation médicale polyvalente qui est devenu autonome en 1980 et dont elle a été le chef de service jusqu'en septembre 2000, date de son départ en retraite.Madame Nicolas était considérée comme une pionnière, clairvoyante et à juste titre exigeante en toutes circonstances.Dans un monde médical essentiellement masculin à cette époque, elle a su s'imposer et imposer la discipline de réanimation médicale dont elle a été nommée professeur en 1973 après avoir été inscrite dans la sous-section réanimation médicale du conseil national des universités dès 1969.Une grande puissance de travail agrémentée d'un esprit scientifique rigoureux ont permis à Madame Nicolas de diriger à la fois le département d'anesthésie-réanimation et la réanimation médicale.Nombreux furent ses champs d'intérêt et de recherche, s'étendant de l'hypothermie expérimentale aux études hémodynamiques, aux indices de gravité, aux infections nosocomiales, à l'évaluation et à bien d'autres activités telles que les conférences de consensus.Localement, elle a pris le temps et l'énergie de s'impliquer fortement dans différentes assemblées telles que le conseil d'administration, la D.
