Abstract
Dans le présent article, nous soumettrons quelques résultats d'une enquête sur l'évolution de l'alphabétisation des hommes dans la région du Saguenay entre 1842 et 1971. Dans cette étape, nous avons cherché à circonscrire l'influence de quelques paramètres spatiaux comme la taille et l'ancienneté des municipalités, la mobilité géographique, la provenance régionale. 1 Toutes nos analyses reposent sur l'utilisation d'un nouvel indice d'alphabétisation qui trouve ici une première application et qu'il est utile de présenter d'entrée de jeu.
