Abstract
L'intervention internationale en santé soulève des questions politiques et éthiques auxquelles n'échappe pas l'approche féministe. Le cas de la mortalité maternelle est particulièrement éloquent à ce titre: l'écart entre la situation observée dans les pays développés et celle des pays dits en développement inspire un sentiment d'urgence alors que la détermination des actions les plus efficaces pour réduire cet écart est loin de faire consensus. Dans cet article, l'auteure utilise une recherche exploratoire menée en Afrique de l'Ouest auprès de femmes sur leurs expériences de la grossesse et de l'accouchement afin de promouvoir la recherche qualitative pour la définition d'actions potentielles visant à réduire la mortalité maternelle. À l'aide d'exemples tirés des propos de ces femmes, elle fait ressortir comment leur discours peut être utile pour la conception d'actions susceptibles d'apporter des changements et rappelle que l'attrait de solutions de nature technique ne devrait pas faire oublier l'ancrage social de la situation actuelle.
