Abstract
A l’instar de la plupart des sociétés occidentales, le Canada fait présentement face à des questionnements sociétaux fondamentauxqui ont amené l’État à se pencher sur ce qu’il semble percevoir comme un problème de cohésion sociale de même quesur les paramètres actuels de la citoyenneté. Le texte tente de faire la lumière sur certaines des réponses que l’État canadienapporte à ces questionnements. À travers une analyse de ses pratiques et de ses discours récents en matière de gestion de ladiversité nationale et culturelle, il appert que loin d’assouplir les critères et les normes de citoyenneté, ce que certaines revendicationsidentitaires préconisent souvent, l’État canadien choisit plutôt de reconduire et de resserrer les notions et les idéauxqui ont traditionnellement servi de fondements à l’image convenue qu’il véhicule de la communauté politique canadienne.
