Abstract
De l'épopée à la nouvelle en passant par le roman, la littérature s'est lentement éloignée de l'idée de totalité et s'est plutôt acheminée vers l'expression du fragmentaire, le monde devenant de plus en plus complexe, éclaté et inexprimable dans son ensemble. Pourtant, il n'est pas certain que tous les écrivains aient abandonné le projet de dire l'indicible et d'exprimer, inconsciemment ou non, dans des textes brefs la totalité de l'expérience humaine. Le genre narratif bref, dans son versant fantastique, connaît au Québec, dans les vingt dernières années, un essor important, et l'on retrouve dans ce corpus, autour d'écrivains comme André Carpentier, André Berthiaume, Aude, Gilles Pellerin, Daniel Sernine et Marie José Thériault, cette volonté de renouer avec le magique et l'épique, tout en prenant la mesure du réel.
