La configuration de la solidarité publique envers les jeunes en difficulté d’insertion en France, oscillant entre vision familialiste et injonction à l’insertion professionnelle, fragilise particulièrement les jeunes déjà vulnérables du fait de difficultés d’insertion associées à une absence de soutien familial. L’article explore la façon dont le caractère faiblement protecteur de la solidarité publique pour les jeunes entre 16 et 25 ans induit une interdépendance forte entre la négociation des identités individuelles et le rapport développé au système d’aide. Il montre en effet que les histoires de vie difficiles, les recompositions identitaires qu’elles génèrent ainsi que la nature du réseau relationnel sur lequel les jeunes peuvent s’appuyer conditionnent la façon dont ils expérimentent la situation de précarité tout comme leurs modalités de recours à l’aide. Il met également en lumière l’incidence sur la relation d’aide de la rencontre entre logiques d’intervention professionnelles et logiques d’usage des jeunes bénéficiaires.
